Fellow couchsurfers staying in Tromsø have recommended us to ride the cable car up the hill so that we have a good view of the fireworks. Not too familiar with Tromsø, we followed their advice and made our way across the bridge to Tromsdalen where the cable car station was located. It was a pretty long walk in the bad weather and the wind was so strong when we were on the bridge that I feared being blown off. When we were walking against the wind, it was so exhausting that it felt like I was swimming against the current.
After some time, we finally reached the cable station. We paid 198 NOK for both of us which will bring us up and down the hill. It was a brief ride up and the scenery of Tromsø was spectacular. The best direction to face when in the cable car is to face Tromsø. It was near to midnight and we found a spot to mount our camera on a tripod. Fortunately we did not arrive too early as it was really cold and I didn’t think we would enjoy the great outdoors in such weather. The countdown began and at the stroke of midnight, the fireworks were ignited. Residents all over the island set off their own fireworks to join in the celebrations. The fireworks flew up high into the night sky, exploding into a kaleidoscope of different colors that came in all shapes and sizes. For a moment we forgot about the bitter cold and stood mesmerized by the brilliant spectacle.

We just got off the cable car.
From the top of the hill, we could see most of Tromsø island.
To say it’s cold is an understatement. The wind chill is terrible on the hill.
After midnight, fireworks were set off throughout Tromsø
