Review of Shaftesbury Premier London, Paddington
After the third day, British Airways was not going to pay for our stay at Hilton London Metropole any longer. We decided to checked out to find a cheaper place if BA refused to reimburse us rather than remain staying in our room for about £200 a night. We were looking for a nearby hotel and Shaftesbury Premier Paddington seems to meet our needs at a reasonable price.
The hotel is not far from Paddington Station and is located along a row of residential houses. A pretty quiet location so I don’t think noise should be an issue here. The façade of the houses in this area are beautifully restored so the surroundings give off a nice clean vibe. Checking in was reasonably hassle free.
The room is furnished to a high standard and shows signs of recent renovation. However, we could see signs that the refurbishment done is not to standard and I would suspect the rooms will start to look and feel dreary pretty soon. We had a problem with the window not being able to close and it was finally fixed by the staff after a few attempts. Typically of old houses converted into hotels, rooms tend to be irregular in shape and sizes so space could be a constraint in some rooms. There are also quite a number of steps in this hotel so people with lots of luggage or people with movement difficulties. Refer to the floor plan below to get a better idea. Some rooms also have steps.

We had a comfortable stay and had no problems with sleeping in the room. No problem with external noise but you can hear people in the corridor rather clearly. The temperature is toasty which is the way I like it and no problems with the bathroom either.

For the price we paid, which also includes breakfast, this hotel is very decent. Internet access is also included in the room rate which I think should be standard for all hotels. However we did not get to enjoy the breakfast because they only start serving at 7am and we have to be at the airport before that. They didn’t do packed breakfasts too which I think it’s a shame since it didn’t really require much effort and the customers checks out satisfied.

Shaftesbury Premier London Paddington is a small hotel converted from an old house. I guess Georgian?
The lobby is pretty small. For those who are wondering, the breakfast room is outside in the basement.

Wow that is pretty tiny. Good review! You got that room for a fantastic price though, not many £60 a noght places in central london…
Thanks for your comments! For the price it’s not too bad, given the location.
