Bath, one of the few places in Britain with a natural hot spring, inspires classical images of well sculptured men and women enjoying the hot waters in a pool with tall columns around its perimeter. Today, the natural hot springs water feeds a modern spa facility located beside the historical Roman Baths where everyone can go for a dip.

I will not be writing much about the Roman Baths since I did not venture in. I found the admission fees to be a tad expensive and there is already a virtual tour available online. Admission per adult comes to £11.50 and at the back of my mind I was thinking of the amount of food I could buy with the admission fees of 2 adults. Ah, the perils of budget travelling.

We spent a night in one of the guesthouses located in the town centre and the next day we joined a free guided tour given by volunteers. The tour last about 2 hours and we walked around Bath with the guide giving us some background behind some of the buildings in Bath. If you have time, I would seriously recommend that you join one of the tours. No booking required, just show up at the correct time in front of the Roman Baths! The guide will let you in on some of the interesting information about Bath such as evidence of freemasonry in Bath and the fact that the new Bath is built on top of the old Bath. You can still see some of the old Bath along the river.

Roman baths lying underneath the lane level of the modern city and filled due to the holy hot spring, and an attractive museum of relics. Among all these parts, the main attraction is the sacred spring whose waters of 460 degree Celsius increases by 1,170,000 liters daily since its origin, which is marked as the phenomenon of the gods.
