I am so excited by the upcoming Kindle 3rd generation that this is the first time I will write about something without any prior experience. I am sure a lot of people will know by now Amazon has greatly slashed the prices of Kindle 3rd generation to USD$189 and here in United Kingdom, it is slightly more expensive going for £149. Something like a price war with Barnes and Noble. Therefore the Kindle has reached a price point that many people are starting to take a second look.

I know you are going to say that it is still bloody expensive for a dedicated ebook reader. However as the subject title implies, the exciting thing is it comes with free 3G in more than 100 countries. Now I say again, FREE! Of course there are limitations. Previously you can only access the Kindle store, but now you can access also Wikipedia. Sometimes there might be some handy travel information. The most important feature for travelers is you can post to Twitter and Facebook with this free 3G. These are what I have gathered from reading on other reviews on the Kindle 2.5 update. You can create a private Twitter account so that only your loved ones and your family can access it. Once you reach any new destination, just tweet away. There is no need to worry about costs too since Amazon pays for the 3G access. It cost me 35p just to send a sms from my 3 pay-as-you-go phone to Singapore. If you are going on a round-the-world trip, which seems to be the rage nowadays, you don’t need me to tell you the amount of money you can save. However, your tweets will actually include an Amazon link too. Somewhat like advertising for Amazon. A small price to pay for free 3G don’t you think? Let us not forget that it’s also an ebook reader! Now I have to decide what to read on my 24 hour train ride from Bergen to Bodo in Norway.
If you are a travel blogger, imagine what you can do with this latest gadget. Once you reach a new destination, tweet away. After you find internet access, follow up with a more detailed blog update. In this way, you can always keep your readers in the loop. Letting the whole world know where you are can also come with its advantages especially when it comes to safety. Staying in a suspicious place? Tweet about it. Having problems with transport and stuck in the middle of nowhere? Tweet about it. This Kindle will be the top communication tool that I will be using.
Once I have my hands on the latest Kindle, expect a more detailed update on how to do to achieve this. At the moment, the first shipment is sold out and the delivery date keeps getting pushed back. I am keeping my fingers cross.
