29th May 2010 – Day 6 of roadtrip

Right after Hill Top, we visited Beatrix Potter Gallery which is located at nearby Hawkshead. The gallery used to be the office of William Heelis, who married Beatrix Potter. Visitors will no doubt be able to appreciate many of her original drawings here than her furniture at Hill Top. The gallery is also inside a small quaint building with creaky stairs and low levels of lighting that help to preserve the colours of her drawings.

Globenomads review rating: 4/5
Come take a look at Beatrix Potter’s paintings and other interesting exhibits in this charming location.

Sometimes you may come across this sign “Free House” at certain Pubs in Britain. It means the pub is not tied down to serve alcohol from a single brewery. More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_house_%28pub%29#Tied_houses_and_free_houses_in_Britain

A very interesting gallery place to visit! The little hut type kind of houses are nice!

Hey your kids read Beatrix Potter? Seems to be very popular with the Japanese, saw some Japanese tour groups there.
